APRIL 10
16.04.10
This last Month saw us finally submit American Men's Cool World to the plant. And then a bunch of remixes showed up in our inbox that completely scuppered our whole shit by being so darned good. Ikonika and Optimum have collaborated on a remix of Claude Speeed whilst New York's Falty DL put his sushi-smelling hand-of-God to Am Men's Good Police. So now we've enlisted our crew in the form of Machine Drum and Hudson Mohawke to flesh out these remixes and upgraded the whole project to duo vinyl pack - 1 virgin Cool World EP, 1 remixes EP all together in a beautiful gatefold sleeve. We don't have a release date yet but we're rushing to get this out by Sonar. Watch this space I guess.
-
Mixtapes this month - April = April Fools = Fools Gold Records Special - So in two parts over the course of the April we have exclusive new mixes from the Fools Gold roster with Nick Catchdubs and Kingdom joining our ranks. Kingdom and I we're internet friends for a long time when he was stil Ezra, making amazing hip hop edits. It's about time we caught a tape from the guy. We're also really really stoked to be joined by the label boss of the fucking excellent Future Times Records, Maximillion Dunbar, for another exclusive mixtape. Optimo sent us an exclusive mix which we are completely honoured by. It's a good bye to their legendary club in Glasgow Optimop Espacio. And of course wealso host a great tape by Lukid of Werk Disks. We really can't be internet-fucked-with this Month.

Okay, pretty excited to announce this: We are officially working with Machine Drum aka Travis Stewart on his new record out in early June on LuckyMe Music.Art.Parties. The EP with working title - The Many Faces of Machine Drum - will be out just in time for our appearance together at Sonar. For those that don't know Travis is an elder statesman of electronic beat and dance music. He's based in Brooklyn New York. Runs the Norm Rex label. Has released, influenced and worked with the likes of Jimmy Edgar, New Look, Theophilus London, Yo! Majesty, Jesse Boykins iii, Praven and many more, If you trace back the LuckyMe Mixtapes to the start of our label ou'll notice he's a strong influence on our djs. When we meet in person for the first time we all became instant friends - chopping up stories and gossip in the world of RnB, Hip Hop, Juke & Ghetto Ho. use. I mean, this guy is so naturally a part of our vague all-encompassing ethos that to work together is very natural. And yet when we stop to think about it, it's also a great honour. Genious is a word way too-banded around these days but if you could hear the gigabytes of music that Travis sent us as a demo, you'd loose your mind. Entire fuzz rock albums, French House, Electro, Beats, Hip Hop, Dubstep. This guy does not stop making music. If we play a small part in getting him his dues as one of the greatest living producers then we'll be happy at that.
One side of the 12" will bring you three tracks of pitch-perfect icicle-clean beat production with the usual Machine Drum flavour. The other is a Ghetto House / Juke look with three club eater-uppers.
-
Lunice and Ango keep and stayed at our Woodhaven Studio for a couple days after Red Bull Music Academy. We sooooo were meant to work on his forthcoming Stacker Upper record, but instead we decided instead to eat vitamin packed meals. I'm talking bout doner pizza, chased by a fish supper, followed by deep fried Mars bars, washed down with Buckfast and Irn Bru. It's a cliche we try treat our friends with when they come to Scotland. Usually the knock it back or don't finish. But after two weeks sinking energy syrup and eating nearly exclusively from FCK Chicken on Old Street, Lun's fast food swagger was unstoppable. He even ate all that shit, then returned to base and opened a pack of Cola Bottles a half hour later! A HALF HOUR LATER! - whilst we're taking press shots of the dude. What a beast. But I suppose at 21 Lunice can get away with it. Stacker Upper is coming soooon on LuckyMe. 6 tracks of minimalist instrumental hyphy and club hip hop from Montreal's one man super food resistance.
-
The Blessings debut record is coming out later this month on Kindred Spirits / Nod Navigators. Galaxy High is our debut but also a kinda concept record where we tried to make a beat record with glimmers of our early influences in music and (dare I say it) street culture. To commit time to making our own record was so much fun, just pulling in equipment and friends to make 6 short tracks that span so much of what we're about. We can't play drums, but on Galaxy High - we PLAY drums.
-
We took to the road for the first leg of the Hudson Mohawke and Olivier Day Soul, 'Pheonix Rising' American Tour this month. Ten days spanning 4 shows at SXSW in Austin as well as a date in Los Angeles for Dim Mak Tuesdays at Cinespace. This update has been hella long but let me explain the whole thing in pictures and a few words / videos:

FEBRUARY 10
26.02.10
I know, I know. It's been too long. I tell you what's done it. Twitter. We feel like the news is all happening real time these days so we forget to archive what we're doing properly here. Look, let's catch up.
Rustie's album is nearly finished - we think. It could of been done a cold minute ago but the guy has just never stopped turning out music. We're pretty fuckin excited to hear the final choices and masters. But trust, this abum is gonna remind you why Rustie Rus became the unassuming king of the epic club song.

-
( !FAKE 3RD PERSON WARNING! ) The Blessings just finished their debut EP proper. It's due out in late April 2010 on the most excellent Kindred Spirits imprint - Nod Navigators. THEY are really fucking happy with it. Get ready for Galaxy High.
-
S'funny how shit flips upside down. Hudson Mohawke finds himself as a mentor at Red Bull Music Academy London over the next few weeks, essentially meaning he's being told to work with our new signing from Montreal, Lunice. Catch the two of em supporting MF DOOM at the Roudhouse in Camden this weekend - although this show is completely and utterly sold out. Has been for weeks. We went for dinner with the Red Bull folks the other day and they were telling me about the Moody Man roller disco they are putting on. Holy Shit! 12 dancers and the man curtained-one himself flying over from Detroit to acknoweldge the roller-boot's place in musical history. What a great idea.

-
Ben UFO joins Gosub on our mixes page today. If you've not already get them all via our automated itunes podcast, or download em direct from us. Hessle Audio and Isophlux keep on.

-
We're quite proud of the fact that in the month that clause 696 mades its ugly return to London we absolutely smashed Cargo with our LuckyMe X Last.fm show. With the American Men live debut, The Blessings live, Rustie live and Eclair Fifi and Mamiko Motto in the mix it was a surprisingly great atmosphere in a venue that we will be sorry to see slide awayyyy frommmm relevanceeeeee.
You can check the photos of the night in our photos section, for those with the time to mouse walk. Peace to Hot City and Matt Samurai for their support on the night.

-
It's a damn shame that the East End is changing so fast. It remains to be seen if we can man-up on the Save Plastic People campaign in time to actually touch someone in office with the cultural significance of this music and these venues. For many of us, our memories of this venue are personal. Myself and Hudson Mo played our first significant London show in Plastic way back in June 28th, 2007. That shit totally lifted our lid on what clubs could sound and feel like. Even if you don't have the personal attachment we have to Plastic People, you must know how rare a music centric club is these days. Not to make a sweeping statement but these sorts of venues are limited to one a city, if not country. They are the epicentre of our music and are essential to the emergance of new ideas and culture. So please, support the Save Plastic People campaign.

Long News this month. We also played the launch of the Glasgow Short Film Festival where we took over the main courtyard of the Centre of Contemporary Art for a live show by American Men, The Blessings, Dema and DAvid Barbarossa, with new visuals by Konx Om Pax and Dom Sum Flannigan. Again, it was a surprisingly fun night. Always good to play in weird empry concrete spaces on the back of Tilda Swinton screenings. Shit, are we ageing? We had House Party on the projector too? I swear. Photos of this show have also been added to the photos section.

JANUARY 10
10.01.10
Happy New Year probably seems quite hollow on the 10th, right? You're likely already thinking about Valentines, or Spring. Such is our nature. But for what is maybe the last time this year: Happy Fuckin New Year. Let's all plan to recharge our resolutions in May or something. We hope you accomplish all you wish for this year. We've got a really busy year ahead but as I'm about to explain in more detail - 2009 was all about bunking down, planning, plotting and getting into position. We toured the World, released our debut LP on Warp Records. We left our day jobs, moving to new cities. Fuck, some of us even made babies. But now as the festive season of 09 floats off into memory like the smell of roasted chestnuts, 2010 promises to be the year of making stuff and doing things. Not thinking about it. Not learning how to' - but just working. Working on music. Working on our label. Working.

-
Mike's record, Lucky 9teen, has been a beautiful success for our young label. We sold out of our first press after 4 days and our record elves are busy on batch two right about now. It appeared as a late record of the year on many 'end-of' charts. Everyday our google alerts sing critical approval of Slott's music and it's given us this strong sense of 'wind in our sails' for 2010. We just feel really bright and optimistic about the future. We started out wanting to release and make a name for our home town, but more and more we can see opportunities opening up beyond our expectation. This year will see us incrementally play and promote the biggest shows of our careers. As well as release music by legends who have inspired the LuckyMe ethos and young international artists who excite us. Our next record is a lil ditty called Cool World by the three piece synthetic rock band American Men. A 5 track debut EP on 12" and digital with beautiful artwork care of our award winning in house team this is going to be a really seminal record for us.

-
Our NYE Party was a blast. Dorian Concept, Brackles & Guido joined Eclair Fifi, Jackmaster & Goodhand for a sell out crowd at Glasgow's Stereo. It was all confetti cannons and facebooks. The party lasted two days and we heard that Joe Ballers ended up talking with an Australian accent without even realising. Photos are now up in our photo section.

-
So good to have Nadsroic back in Glasgow over the festive period. We managed be get in the studio for a couple days so you will no doubt hear more from her this year. Yeah, she's been busy writing and was full of energy for a new project. The first song we made was called Ghost Valley Won and it's kinda like a Timbo-meets-Beetle Juice sorta thing.
-
In other news, you likely know that our best friends at Numbers have done what we've been telling ‘em to do for years and deaded their individual labels to become a branded powerhouse - one of the most significant labels in modern music of this we are sure. Some people have made presumptions that we have imploded our label and joined their ranks. We can assure you we haven't joined the Numbers coalition. We continue to be their biggest fans, playing alongside them and after-partying with them but LuckyMe continues to be its own thing. Long live the Glasgow mafia. We will keep grindin' 'til we make that Airport-Kilt-Towel money.

-
It all sounds good I hope, but it is the honest nature of all things is that with success comes failure. And it occurred to me recently that without an open acknowledgement our failure was going to be obvious and unavoidable in 2010... We were going to work so hard trying to do everything that we simply wouldn't enjoy anything. Should we not acknowledge it right now, I’m worried we would take this shit for granted. And that my friends, is not cool.
If you work as an artist yourself then I'm sure you relate to what I'm saying. You might have forged a living out of your love but the reality of doing this has left you flat. Even in our short time in this game we've noticed the normalising effect of crazy shit – seeing Mala hug and console Jamie Cullum after his gig bombed at Sonar. Standing in front of crowds of thousands of bikinis at Stereosonic in Melbourne. Fights outside Warp Ed in Paris. All this shit just sorta... happens. And it used to be our dreams. Without acknowledging this simple fact and soaking that shit up we can get stressed. Inpatient. Unsatisfied. Ignorantly Blahzay Blahzay.
It's so fucking stupid, but that's where my head was earlier today. I was making my way back to Scotland from the Numbers X Fabric takeover ( respect to Tom Patchwork Pirates for that programming. Unbelievable night in every room. ) and I was feeling hungover and despondent despite a great crowd, great music and a great party. I was a total spoiled brat. I rode out the download of Mike's new tape on the shitty train wi-fi and from the first 30 seconds of track one something shook me awake. Without planning it Mike had reminded me why we do what we do. It's not a mix of white labels. Not ableton mixed. But it is so timelessly fresh that it soaked up all my bleak, hung over, post-xmas negativity and turned it into an unexpected smile as I rode a train home in the snow. If there's something Mike has imparted with this mixtape tribute to the life of Fernando Castillo, it is that we should stop studying our place in our art and start loving it again. We all need to hear that once in a while. It's stupid and saccharin but I hope my schmutz is somehow relevant to you. Love what you do in 2010. And thank you Mike Slott for the wake up.
-
Go cop it now in our mixes section.

DECEMBER 09
20.12.09
As Xmas creeps up on us we have to tell you about a few important things:
Firstly, we're sorry we didn't do our advent calendar this year. We've seen some fairly bogus rip-offs this year. No one on the grotto got swagger like us.
Secondly, we are throwing a New Years Eve Party ( we call it Hogmanay ) with Numbers at Stereo with special guests Dorian Concept, Brackles & Guido alongside a posse of beautiful girls, LuckyMe clan and Numbers mafiosa. Buy the remaining tickets here... Last count had only 30 left.

Thirdly, tomorrow is the last day to get website orders in for xmas. The crews and new tee shirts are flying.
Fourthly, we received confirmation from our distributor that Mike Slott's Lucky 9Teen is already sold out. So time for a repress. It should only now be showing up in your independent stores but there will be more coming along soon. For reliable sources you can either buy from us in our shoping mall, or Juno, Boomkat and Bleep.
And finally, we used to like that you only came here for our mixtapes. I mean, we've said it before - It's really dumb that we have all these social network sites for LM and that to find out news you might feel you have to comb the sites. You can always come here and get the most up to date stories on our movements - but it's undeniable - if you want a regular dose of music to an iPod, then you can't fuck with the iTunes Podcast service. New good music just appears and you don't evene notice it until your on the bus to work. So thinking about you on your way to work, we have uploaded all our tapes to date onto a new LuckyMe iTunes page. So join us.

15.12.09
World renound Sasha Frere Jones has voted our LuckyMe, alongside our friends at Fact magazine, best sites of 2009 in The Newyorker. Apparently we give excellent tapes alongside photos of Jelly Beans and young people. Shit's pretty right-on-the-money (proven here by a photo of Jellybean and a young Madonna). Thank you for your support Sasha. Read the article here.

02.12.09
Camera-man Shaun Bloodworth and our pals at Bleep have collab'd to make the NSEW project this month documenting a generation of beatmakers in North and South of UK, East and West of US. The finished project is a beautiful bit of print featuring our guys Mike Slott, Rustie & Hud Mo. Even Taz Buckfaster got in the cut. You can buy your copy of the prints here if you're quick.
-
01.12.09
Nadsroic just posted these Christmas Cards on our private forum...
Rustie, Hud Mo, Mike Slott & The Blessings
Mike Slott, Jay Prada, Eclair Fifi, Dema & Joe Ballers.
Shit killed us.

NOVEMBER 09
19.11.09
If you give it a Google - we have given some key tracks from Mike Slott's Lucky 9teen micro album to our folks at XLR8R, Fader, Red Bull & FACT. Go cop.

Lucky 9Teen drops NOVEMBER 30th 2009
-
Hud Mo was on our private forum the other day asking for new shit for his BBC Radio One Essential Mix. So we provided. Can't wait to hear it Mo. Also - Hud Mo is off for Warp 20 Japan and a tour of Australia. We made him and exclusive tour tee shirt for the shows. These are mega limited to 50 tees so get if you can.

-
New Mixtapes have been added to the site by Profisse of the excellent Cloak X Dagger, Falty Dl is in the mix as well as the one and only Andrew Meza of BTS Radio. Where as the last few months of tapes have been great we did notice our hip hop quota dip slightly. This month brings us back on track with just the right amount of true-school to make us not feel like we operate in the trans-sexual world of berlin ketamine and dark electronic music.
-
14.11.09

Toxins left the body - check. Body clock back in order - check. Woke up in own bed - check.
Well Well Well we made it through two parties in two cities with our friends at Citinite and it was all pretty hilarious.
The final lineup was fairly epic: Rustie / Dam Funk / Jimmy Edgar / Gosub all live, with DJ support from Hudson Mohawke / Kode 9 / Ikonika / Greena and despite the great November storm that was pouring down on us in Vauxhall, and a soundman born of Hades we all had a great time. I'd like to take this opportunity to say whattup to all the artists involved, Manny Z at Citinite, The Lightbox staff and the taxi driver who couriered our asses from Vauxhall to Finsbury Park for a mixed sheesh.
-
The Glasgow show the following night ran, comparitively, like clockwork. Jimmy and Gosub were really dope with Eclair proving why we hold her in such high regard. YOu the greatest Clair. The greatest thing about Glasgow was that girls were outstripping fellas in the club about 2:1 but I guess that's Jimmy Edgar for ya. Damn those cheek bones.
-
Okay now that it's over I need a day of silence.

A few words from our sponsors:
“Mike Slott is my kind of music” - Benji B, Deviation 1Xtra
“If Mike's music wasn't this good, I would be looking at his hair all day” - Martyn, 3024
“Mannn, this record is really great. Snow Birds is KILLING it , as is 40 Winx. A 30 minute psychedelic journey” - Machine Drum
“Mike Slott is one of the deeply inspirational next generation beat builders pushing electronic sound into a whole new stratosphere for 2010” - Mary Anne Hobbs, BBC Radio One
“Lush, beautiful tracks" - Manny Z, Citinite
“Like a soundtrack to a sci-fi dream sequence. glittering lights, docking sequences, warm hearts and smiles, the ground disappearing below. Mike's music glides and sparkles”- Jamie Vex'd
“Luv' Mike's music long time... Amanallah and Six AM are particularly fizzy” - Kode 9, Hyperdub
“It's got a lush and beautiful thing that's hard to find in electronic music. There's always a feeling of hope in Mike's sound” - Flying Lotus
“...I love it. It's like a futuristic soundtrack from the 70's! ... that's how I feel about it! It's got this blend of old and new, so you want to say this is some vintage music, but the old stuff could never sound like this because there was no hip hop then... Very cool” - Cornelius Atlantis Harris, Underground Resistance

Now, more Hudson Mohawke Hype. The Spreadable Edition is out now - exclusively from BLEEP. HERE.

You guys must know we put out the first solo Hudson Mohawke record right? Hudson Mohawke says Ooops! has been a consistent club classic which is ironic because we only wanted to make a record of the moment. Anyway, to celebrate the launch of Hudson Mohawke's debut LP Butter - we are offering two tracks for free download alongside our homeys Wireblock. Just go cop the bootleg to end all bootlegs HERE.
-
18.10.09
So we got the cover of The List this month with a great little label expose. Thanks to Jonny Ensail and David Pollock for the support as per usual. You guys ride on the eternal guestlist for sure.
-
We attended the Hudson Mohawke Butter Launch last night with the Numbers dudes at Stereo in Glasgow. It was stoopid fun with Konx Om Pax dropping the Piano Cat visuals on top of FUSE.
-
A note about NUMBERS - when we formed as a crew these guys were already putting on great techno & underground music from all genres in Glasgow. This month, these guys who have been steadily grinding to help push good music from Glasgow under numerous guises, are joinging forces to make a clan so massive that their after parties look like the final scene of Akira. They are our friends and in some ways tied to everything we do here at LuckyMe. So support the newly formed Numbers label who look set to release the new Ghosts on Tape and Low Limit / Lazer Sword records. Get that ca$h.
-
Also, we've been all hands on deck to get this site sorted. Just tryng to make it all really easy. We still got more goodies for you in the next few months, but like, we're always improving right? That's how it should be.
-
06.10.09
Just working on this mixtape for The List magazine which hits stores tomorrow across Scotland - they have given us a little feature on the run up to the Hudson Mohawke Butter launch. Nadsroic just made me smile with this shit. Which kinda reminds me where having a come-as-Prince-special for Halloween party this year - the Horror Social Club with Subeena and Ghostleighdubz at Twisted Wheel, Glasgow. I suppose it'll look like this... only Rustie's thizz face will be even harder!

01.10.09
New Website is now live with a crop of new functionality coming live on Monday 5th October.
It ain't that different looking but the code has given us square eyes. This new dawn will bring more organised content to your ears and eyes. In a world of constant updates and tweets it can feel like one needs to be completely autonomous to see every bit of breaking news. Kanye did what? To Who? When?
Look, from now on this site is gonna be the place to find out about all our new releases, music, shows and artwork. We want to make this the one-stop shop - an aggregator of the movements of the family - I mean, we are still gonna be everywhere on our myspaces and facebooks - and tbh the crew is doing such amazingly spread work now I dont think anyone can pull all the threads together - but we want to make this, our home turf, even easier for you guys to come round and crack a can with us.
We have a little Movies Section. We have sorted out our Photography into albums of events (loads more to come) so that you can check out our girlfriends a little easier. The Mixes section has grown dramatically the last few months with shit from Juiceboxx, Machine Drum, Dam Funk, Kode 9, Terror Danjah and the LuckyMe kids so go check that out. In fact we noticed that djs are now taggin their blog mixtapes as fake LuckyMe mixtapes - come on guys - we are NERDS - you dont want our kudos.
So basically, we have upped our game and now its just about making more of that good, good product for you guys. Much Peace. Now to rest my weary eyes - Im gonna go see Nite Jewel with Fine Art & Eclair Fifi - maybe they can sing me back to good health and I'll come home and add more photos. Mannn, I feel like I'm in the fuckin Matrix right now.

It's been a whle. We've been working on the Hud Mo sleeve and redoing the whole fucking site. we'll give it a little spit and polish next week but in the meantime we've put up about 9 new mixes on the site, as well as The Blessings and Rustie making new mixes for Dazed, Nalden & Fact magzine respectively - all to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of our club Ballers.

About 10 LuckyMe artists in one place ( + Mamiko Motto and Lukid). Pretty nuts. Just sitting together on a cloud as we have a little listening party of the final masters of the much awaited debut LP from Hudson Motherfuckin Mohawke. Entitled 'Butter' it's the best music we have ever heard. Out on Warp Records October 12th. Okay, it's time we go play to 300 sweaty hometeamers at our 2nd Annual Edinburgh Festival Party.
This'll be fun. Photos and film to follow over the coming week.

B5C don't quit. This Friday we played host to 7VWWVW, Danny Breaks & Dam Funk alongside The Blessings at Stereo. What an amazing vibe. Really special. Then on Saturday the Droppin' Science boss Danny Breaks got his own shine alongside Eclair Fifi within the four walls of the IVY. So, like I said, B5C don't quit.

21st
The Blessings were in London last weekend for the INSA X Nike Exhibition opening at 1948 and then played through thunder and bolt lightning at the awesome Cordy House Warehouse on Curtain Road. It was raining in the mother fuckin club! Super gangster in there. On Saturday we mastered some records for the label and then took to the stage of Cargo alongside Bullion, De Tropix & Joker for the good folks at the Summer Bubblers night. Hud Mo played a ravey, packed-out Glade stage and then came and hung out with us. He also gave us a newly mastered copy of the LP. OMFG it's truly incredible. You're gonna love it.
Rustie played at 5 Days Off Festival in Amsterdam alongside Cinnaman, GLK, Juha and many more. I heard he ate pretty well. Pretty busy wee weekend then really. Thanks to the crowds, Tiago, Alex Nut, Patchwork Pirates, Alex Bok Bok, Cooly G & Darkstar for coming down oh, and the Curtain Road Salt Beef Bagel Emporium that bore nearly every meal for Hud Mo, Fine Art and myself this weekend. I put on a pound of pure mustard and I ain't even sweatin it.

We just barfed a brand new Rustie mixtape onto the mixes section beside the new work from Matthewdavid & 7VWWVW. Go get 'em.
-
Oh, and while we're on the subject of freebies, cheers to the pieces of shit bootlegging a brand new independent release which retails for £4.74 on iTunes. Wow, that's super lowwwwwwww. Still, at least your stealing with a lil style cause your peddling the good shit not the bullshit.
If there was any justice in the the world the same bootlegger would send us a decent, non-diy Jermiah Birthday Sex acapella right now.

Nadsroic's Room Mist EP is available now on digital formats from Boomkat, Amazon, Wasabeat, Juno, iTunes US & iTunes UK. 12" vinyl ships next week so pre orders can now be taken on Boomkat here.
Next week sees a launch on Bleep as well for those loyal to the site.
The anticipation has built up so much for this limited little 12" that a mere google of Nadsroic brings up a million or so reviews and blogs. Thank you everyone for getting into it. We've picked this review from ATM Mag as an example of our overflowing cup of swag juice:
"Unless you’ve been living under a rock recently you’ll know that Glasgow-based music collective LuckyMe are heralding their own hip hop renaissance alongside their L.A, N.Y and other friends. Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and Mike Slott are all long-time members, and LuckyMe’s latest artist, Nadsroic, is bound to make an equal amount of noise. Produced by Hudson Mohawke, this debut EP is as hypnotic as her beautiful voice: 6 tracks of future rnb that blend electronic influences with folk and hip hop to devastating effects. Balancing out the primarily instrumental beat revival that has been taking place worldwide, ‘Room Mist’ is a real breath of fresh air, a sonic bomb wrapped in the smooth vocals of its detonator."
Our folks at No Pain in Pop also described Nads as a ghost ship lumidee. Awesome!
Okay, please go cop the music.
-
Mixtapes added this month verge on the mystical, elemental & sublime world of experimental field recording as Matthewdavid from Dublab & our pals 7VWWVW from Crystal Wish Recordings bring the noise. Get them in the mixes section. Totally free.

We are sorry but the pressing house has delayed the manufacture of the already long awaited Nadsroic Room Mist EP. We have been given the new global release date of June 29th 2009 across 12" & Digital formats from our folks at Turntable Lab, Boomkat, Juno, Rush Hour, Rub A Dub, Phonica, iTunes, Bleep & everyone in between.
In the meantime we thought we would hook you up with Dema's Club Remix of Step Back by Nadsroic - for free. Just click here if you want it. It goes: ass, ass, ass, ass, ass and is Glasgow certified as a true party maker.
We want to take this opportunity to thank the people who mailed us about the record. We hear you and really appreciate your support. Peace from LuckyUs.

Nadsroic EP is in production as we speak and will be out super soon. Oh, and Mike Slott EP is on it's way.
Finally, give money to our sun kissed LA brothers Dublab over their proton drive this week. PEACE.

Yup. Another dope Ballers night the other day there. I'm just sayin you HAVE to drop by some time cause they are my favourite shit now. Dorian Concept smashed this tiny crowd of 80 folk crammed into a corner of the IVY bar with no lights. Elbow dropping the micro korg and playing up around 120 bpm for the last half hour we were just spoiled. Expect some photos and a film up soon here and on our respective Vimeo / Youtube channels. Aight a big notable mention goes to Jay Prada who's debut live performance exceeded our expectation. DUDE YOU KILLED IT!1!1!11!!!! Thanks to the folks who came down and went crazy.
We got a Hinterland special with Dante's Fried Chicken, The Blessings and Theophilus London live this Thursday at a secret location in Glasgow and then in a week we have the return of the soul brother Mike Slizzot alongside Willy the Gaslamp Killer. Oh shit yeah, and Kode 9 & Hudson Mohawke. Damn, we are really killing it at the moment on the live shows.
-
Hey y'all. Hudson Mohawke says Oops! is officially completely sold out now including the extras we had made to sell on this here site. So if you see one out there eat it up with cream cheese.

Yo. Did you hear about the Numbers' Pyramid of Boom with our main peoples Fly Lo, Hud Mo & Rustie live. Dammit.

Every track we have received from him so far has raised the bar of our expectation. We are totally stoked that we can put out innovative records like this. We hope you are along for the ride.

Somewhere on Youtube, there is an unsung hero of ours making these. Steady making our day again and again and again.
Hahahahaha. The resemblance between Nads and the Cheshire Cat here is accidental but tooo good!

I think it's late enough in the day to say this but the A Trak tape was an April fool and the people who mailed me are kinda idiots. Cute, but definitely idiots. Anyways, our video supreme-o Konx Om Pax just made this for DFA. It's fuckin gnarly.

Polyfolk Dance by Hudson Mohawke got it's launch party with the Numbers crew at Plastic People this Thursday. It was great to give him the full capacity of Plastic and still run it through the red. The album is going to be fuckng incredible.
Photos are now up in the photography section.
I'd say more right now but I'm still feeling really emotional after watching Wild Combinations on the train home.

Did anyone catch the Guardian's guide to new trends for 09. Man, we are the first up with 'Wonky'. We don't condone this word but I wont go into it again. It's useful people are trying to talk about us - and to be in that paper is no bad thing. I just get the feeling that people are letting genre names just fall out the side of their mouth like the crumbs on cookie monster. It's dumb. I mean, who would want to affiliate with any genre in 2009 when everyone has an attention span exactly the same length as the first level in Super Mario 3.
Diplo wrote a great article on the redundancy of genre in new music a few months ago for URB. I recommend it. Anyway, we are so grateful for people finding us but there is more going on here with than just that name. Suspend a little disbelief in the defining sound of Wonky and you will find it's got nothing to do with Ketamin or quantizZzing, and everything to do with whatever we deem cool and relevant at LuckyMe.
-
We have put up a nice little tape by our homey HRDVSION onto the mixes section.
-
Dom had fun a few ago on his trip to London to chill and see the Lazersword / New Look Thugs and Hugs party. Peace to Pixy for the photos and of course the PPs.

We've been social network nerds since day dot - we owe a lot of our name to it. But nowadays this website absolutely destroys our myspace traffic. It's maybe cause myspace has become a loveless hollow of bands adding bands. And it's hard looking good on Facebook, but don't get us started.
-
In hope of doing some new things in new ways you can now find us dweebs in the the following geek penitentiarys: myspace, facebook, flickr, twitter, vimeo and youtube. Collect em all and then sign up to our mail out and watch as the proceeding months give you a wealth of really good, exclusive product with a little help from ALL of us round here.
-
New to our vimeo channel we have uploaded our Susology / Making of LuckyMe in the City video. Enjoy.
-
And considering we've been tidying up round here today we have put up yet another new theme to the site. Based on research we've been doing for a sleeve we stumbled upon some untold stories of west african culture, the birth of jazz and some amazing slang from the post bop era.
-
If that's all too slick and intimallectual for you, here's a photo of Cassie. Who we kidding - this works for us.

-
Peep Konx-Om-Pax's new promo for the forthcoming Scandinavia / Stuff collaboration with Neil Landstrumm showing us how it's done.

Quickly, we want to say all the great mails we have received this month about our mixes, all those blog references and forum posts, we see you. Thank you.

Happy St Valentines.
LuckyMe is for the lovers, so on this fine fine day we bring you the much awaited mix by Jamie Vex'd. Up now in our mixes section. Your boyfriend might hate it but you, my dear, are all we care for.
-
If he's not feeling it, put on Hud Mo's Valentines Slow Jams Chapter 2. Just added to mixes.
-
And a reminder for today to keep it real...

-
Friday the 13th huh. Our pals from San Fran, Lazersword, are in town for 4 days playing our Ballers Social Club. The show was late last night and they absolutely burned the house down with oodles of distortion, dry ice and neon bulbs. A very noteable mention goes to Rustie's DJing swagger and the really awesome Fox Gut Daata who still does not fail to impress any one. A cut above the rest.
-

Welcome to February. Thanks to Chesca and Jamie Vex'd for droppin by at the opeing of New Ballers / New Ivy / New Oddities Streetwear store in Glasgow. You were great.

Pretty cool year. We don't want to be too nostalgic. We made lots of music and played lots of shows. We went on our first tours, played a silly amount of festivals including Dour, Sonar ( day & night ), Nottinghill Carnival and many many more. Our first record sold out and only now are the states mailing us about it. You snooze you loose guys. We have contracts dusted for all our 2009 releases which we are extremely happy about. Trust us.
-
Fresh in 09, we have officially added Respite to our roster. You might know him from our mixtapes and the songs that have cropped up on various podcasts over the last year. Edinburgh native, 21 year old living in a dead dubstep fallout in Leeds. He's been down with us for a minute and it's good to finally make our 4x4 web design grid look full. Ahhhhhh.
-
Just to explain why this months update is early, Dom Sum is leaving the country today for a one month sabatical and won't be returning until the Vex'd / Chesca show at Ivy in Glasgow on the 31st January. You can still reach the other powers that be at info@thisisluckyme.com should you have business to discuss.

The Wonky thing caught on didn't it? Well, you know, whatever. Let em slogan. There's always been more than a name here. We make this music because we never did fit into genres. We'll keep playing with rules and bringing you more dope new music. Bring on Post-Wonky.
-

Ayo guys. This month we feature in the new issue of Susology - a free magazine available in the best boutiques and record stores. You'll know it as a A4 format thick, good looking magazine that is perfectly gratis with no advertising. They've had only one issue to date.
They basically commissioned us on the grounds of our artist association to make a cross meda collaboration / article that spans 8 pages all about the influential venues in Glasgow where we went and met before officially becoming a label.
I'll keep this post short for you but should you feel what we are doing, pick up the magazine when you see it, and download exclusives from Mike Slott, The Blessings, Dema & Jay Prada...HERE

Just added the artwork by our homey Konx Om Pax for the forthcoming Hudson Mohawke Polyfolk Dance EP on Warp. Look at it closer on the art direction section.

And I don't mean to brag, I don't mean to boast but we got international press this month via BPM Magazine, SuperSuper, Susology, Grafik & Kruger. Thank you to all of them and the infinite amount of blogs who continue to bootleg and peddle our crocaine.

It seems mad to me but people seem to buying our shirts for xmas presents cause we have all but sold out of the grey deconstruct logo tee this last two weeks. We just updated the stock on the store so it is all current as of right now. For those wanting xmas orders we can get it to you for boxing day as long as you order before Thursday 18th, as guaranteed by the UK's postal service.
Merry Merry Y'all. Hope you are liking the advent calendar as much as we've liked swapping songs to make it. Jo Division from Ballers 5ocial Club has been dredging absolutely hilarious garbage but you'll probably hear it as we run out near the 31st. Psyche!

WInter is upon us. I'm, freezing my ass off as I sit at work writting this.
I hope you like the advent calendar we've been working on. Every day we will bring some funny in-joke that means nothing or little to you and a little audio food to make the shrill cold dissipate.
It's been a good month. A solid month of shows for the A-Team of Hud Mo and Rustie. I guess the Warp hype has them tied to planes. Hud Mo saw Australia and New Zealand. He's only back tomorrow but he's been sending me emails that make it sound pretty hilarious.
-
Mike Slott's Roberta Flack remix finally got out this month on Flying Lotus 2X3 EP. Besides that he's been playing Montreal's Zoobizarre with Lunice and Mofo / Hovatron famlay. He played his solo Europe dates to great success and where he could he sculpted his forthcoming EP for LuckyMe.
-
The High School Pageant one-off party with Eclair Fifi and The Blessings was loads of fun but the best gig of the month award goes to Gaslamp Killer live at Ballers 5ocial Club alongside Subeena, Samoyed, Dougal from Mammal and FineArt. So much fun. Thank you to those who travelled from England / Highlands for the show.
Wow. Nearly forgot we had the awesome Darkstar, Mweslee and B Flecha over to play at Ballers and then join us in Edinburgh for a show at Ultragroove at the start of the month. They are all very dope and we were honoured to play their host. I gotta say how dope the Darkstar afterparty was. 300+ people in some Sauchiehall Street flat. Shit was 30 times crazier than the club. Photos of all our gigs to follow.
-
The Blessings EP is coming for all y'all. We've been syncronizing our days off where we can and making some new shit to be snuck out soon. I guess just watch this space as we schedule 2009 for the label. Speaking of which...
-
The Nadsroic EP is still coming and will be here as soon as Hud Mo gets his woolen mittens into it.
-
This month brings two mixtapes for free download. One from Dom Sum and one from our homepiss Respite. We're calling this the Floorstep Series. - Why? Y-O. Because neither these two have turntables set up. Just one platter set up on the floor of their squat / condominiums. The mixes are beautifully rough. We hope you enjoy.
-
We want to say thank you to all those who set up the Fishtock event at the Edinburgh College of Art on 30.11.08 - to celebrate the life of our friend Paddy Fisher. The music was banging and it was a suitable way to pay him tribute, Here's to Paddy. He wont be forgotten.

We also added the video work on Konx Om Pax cause he has slowly but surely become the best animator we know. Please take a moment to check them out, here.

Sorry we are mega late on the update this month. We have been so good the last year as well - it's just that we got so much traffic this month that we had to upgrade our hosting and our old internet people didn't have a package big enough for us - which meant days of tech support lines.
It's kinda awesome it got this crazy round here but damn if it ain't costing us much more now. So rap fans, go gobble up our web money this month with the Purple Reign Mixtape by FineArt. It's very good. And don't forget to download the others now that they've all been remastered and tagged with girls.
-
Gig news - It's hard to put it into words how much fun we have had the last month. We got to play the best shows all around the States, Europe and on hometurf in the UK.
I mean Montreal, L.A, S.F & New York. One off parties with fashion walk offs in collab with our homeys Pageant in an old church hall in Edinburgh. Then Halloween at Big Toe's Hi Fi, the Beautiful Losers premier after party in Hoxton and Onra / Pursuit Grooves at Ballers in Glasgow. The Slottcano has played Amsterdam's Bimhuis and a crop of European dates. The On the Road with the Beat tour wasn't back 2 weeks before big Hud Mo was out to L.A and S.F again to play Lotus' Brainfeeder Festivals. Man, we're all jealous we didn't see that one. Did you see the line up? RIDICULOUS.
Lotus / Hud Mo / Switch / Martyn / Kode 9 / Samiyam / Ras G and more.
He just sent us a mail that says:
"..Just arrived in S.F 10 mins ago. It's foggy and miserable. We just drove up all the way from L.A in a van with Lotus, Andrew Mochilla, Daedelus, B+, Kode 9 and Martyn..The scenery on the drive was unbelievable."
Attached to this mail was the following photo which we believe is our main man Gaslamp Killer in bed the day after Brainfeeder. Wowser. We love California.

-
On behalf of everyone at LuckyMe we would like to say THANK YOU to every promoter, record label, photographer, film crew, journalist, distributor, artist and support act that we met while we have been playing at jet-set. It's good to no longer be internet-friends huh.
Special peace to the myspace friends who travelled from the likes of Atlanta and deepest Bed Stuay to come to our New York shows. Crazy bastards.
Stay in touch.
-
We have added a bunch of tour photos and other crap to the photography section of the site.
-
Gotta mention Hud Mo is back for one day and then he's off to Australia / New Zealand with Amsterdam's 1.1 for a whistle stop tour. Lucky bastid. Were calling it the Hudson-Don't-Do-Winter-Tour.
-
We have new releases on the releases section from Mike Slott, Hud Mo and Rustie.
-
We have improved the shop capability on the merch page.
-
Design-wise we have started work on Mike Slott's cover for his forthcoming LuckyMe EP due next year, as well as the compilation CD forthcoming on All City which ties together all the 7X7 beat series. We took a new photo shoot with Christina Kernohan this month for our forthcoming label features in BPM Magazine, Susology and SuperSuper.

Also, Please Please Please donate to our people Dublab. They are having there positive proton drive this month and a worthier, more positive cuase is seldom heard.

My name is Dominic. I soon depart for 16 days on the road with some of my best friends on our first tour of the States. Hudson Mohawke, Rustie Russ, Mike Slott & Joe Kalamo. So for this month our theme is just a big pun refering to that much referenced but seldom truly embodied soul of the beat generation. ( Big Pun RIP / Jack Kerouac RIP )
We are literally On the Road with the Beats.
I feel we are playing some of the best clubs in North America and Canada: Montreal with Turbo Crunk / Los Angeles with Low End Theory / San Fran with Glitch Mob & Soundpieces / New York with Low End & Taste Crew. We need to shout out a lot of people for making this tour happen as it was all arranged by phone calls and mails to an increasing international circle of friends. To Surefire Booking agencies Miro and Paul - Thank you so much. To Dante, Joey Taste, Daddy Kev, Rob Speakerbruiser and Mofomatronix. Oscar at Susology. Y'all are family. Thank you.
The adventure begins... Now.
-
On our return we will edit the footage of our travels into a series of documentaries for Susology's website. It hopes to be more than just a party / after party selection. I guess it'll be kinda niave because film is the medium I'm least experienced in and because we are kinda young dudes sent to play rock concerts with no real idea of what we are doing. But heck, we learn by doing, right?
-
it just so turns out that all the three guys I'm travelling with did Mary Anne Hobbs Experimental Sessions on BBC Radio One. We got some mails about Mike Slott's Show so we decided to UP all three sessions as M/A specials on our mixtape section. Peace to Mary Anne, Benji B and all their production team who continue to champion what we are doing.
-
Peace to the home team who aren't hitting the road with us this month. It's a busy one for them too. We have a very radical one off party for free upstairs at the Forest in Edinburgh with the most-fresh Pageant squad on the 3rd of October. The Blessings ( minus myself ), Eclair Fifi & Jay Prada alongside Uderjugend and TM PGNT. There's even gonna be a fashion walk-off! It's bring your own bottle too so you can all get ludacris. The flyer is dope too. Look...

-
There is also another extremely mold snapping line up for our Glasgow club night - Ballers 5ocial. We have another Detroit guest in the form of Underground Resistances finest DJ Skurge playing strictly Disco and Hip Hop ( !!! What the fuck !!! ) alongside our mother fucking number one French-man Fulgeance who stormed our second ever Ballers last year. ( Onra, you are our number two French-man! ) Dude is crew and it will be cool to have him back over eating up the haggis. He is promoting his 7x7 release for All City Records. Act like you know.
-

We shot Susology magazine's create feature for their next issue today. It involves the efforts of around 11 of the LuckyMe artists on the visual and audio tip Keep your eyes peeled for the article and associated songs next month when it crash lands in boutiques and indy stores near you.
-

We went dumb this month and you must be liking it. Cause Mike Slott, Rustie, The Blessings, Hud Mo all got mentions and plays on Deviation, Gilles and Mary Anne Hobbs. Our tapes got downloaded so hard this month already that we had to up our hosting on the site. Damn y'all costing us real money now.
-
BIg Homey Terrence Teh of the Patchwork Pirates has written the cover feature for L.A's excellent BPM Magazine. It's all about one of our favourite fashion labels, Surface 2 Air Paris. A most varied collective of creatives who on certainly inspire us here. Good look Terrence.

Peace to Lukid, The Bug, Flo Dan & Waajeed, Saadiq, Coultrane, Karma & Sidney aka The Mu' Fucking Platinum Pied Pipers. They came, saw and kicked our ass at our Ballers 5ocial Club birthday parties this weekend. Photos up soon.
-
Peace to Soundcrash who got The Bug up here and got Rustie down to play Cargo. The Blessings did not end up going down cause they forgot to book our tickets, meaning we could lamp in Glasgow eating birthday cake.

We just made another worth while addition to the site. A MUSIC PLAYER. Finally. But you will require a current flash player to hear our music. Download one here.
-
For those who steal the mp3's from the source code we have to commend you. I'm sorry we have had to litter the mp3's with soundbites and sometimes cut songs short because Rustie in particular was starting to notice people ripping his songs and putting them on really bad mixes around the net.
in general, we want you to bootleg our shit. That's why we give you so much for free.

Good mornin!
So we've been busy this month. Hudson Mo posted this in his myspace blog and it made us all laugh.
"Airhorn update, been too long again, missed you crazy bastards. im writng to you as i stand bang in the middle of an orchard in Croatia, in the baking afternoon sun, being attacked by geckos and enormous butterflies, with the drone of horrendous dubstep in the distance, and all for 1 bar of intermittent wireless signal, pretty fucking snoooky."

Mannnnnn. Dom Sum and FineArt played Thugs and Hugs Vs. Dante's Fried Chicken at Nottinghill Carnival. It was a party for the Patchwork Pirates with Dazed & Confused featuring The Blessings, Rye Rye & Leif alongside the best nuggets and grits we ever did taste.
The whole concept of Dante's Fried Chicken is very inspiring. If you don't know, get familiar. Whattup to All the Patchwork Pirates, Dante, Diplo, Dana. Ana Bonde Du Role and last but definitely not least Peggy who held us down all night!

The artists collective has a commision this month for the CREATE: feature of Susology Magazine's second issue. The empahsis is on our cross media collaboration and the outcome is going to be an expansive work involving all of our label.
-
Hudson Mohawke is finishing a 12" EP for Warp over the next few days. It's really really fucking good. And we're only swearing here to make the point that even to us, the most jaded fans he has, it's unbelievable.
-
With all the high-brow talk of art commissions, beautiful shows and progressive electronic music it can be easily forgetten that we are dumb rap fans and really, really uncool. So this month we themed the site to remind you that while the greatest thing a dj can do is play a record that reeks of cool, cultural signifance - it can also be great to play the nano-satisfying records of the moment. This is more than pop we're fighting for here. It's the right to be clever and cool whilst current and cute.
To the innovators of this world who have been ripped off and then surpassed by the obvious we plead you to use this age of Myspace to get shows, money and have a great time doing it. Get dumb for a minute. We will respect you forever.

It's hard to believe this is true but to our friend Paddy Fisher, may you rest in peace. You are missed.
-
Hudson Mo told us in the car back from Connect Festival in Inverary, that stepping off the train when he got back from Manchester was horrible. It was 8am rush hour in central Glasgow and the town was swarming with unhappy faces going to work on a miserable overcast August day. But it was then that he had the satori which allowed him to go home and make music. We are so unbelievably lucky to do what we do. Most of us at LuckyMe have a grind and a day job. But even to be on our side of the turntables is pretty incredible so thank you if you've enabled that in any way. With all this in mind we will try and not take it for granted again.

No no no no no you gotta be kidding me. Isaac Hayes R.I.P. What is going on y'all?
Please read our news feed from the 02.06.08 to see a list of some of the legends we are missing. Terrible news.

Just got back from London playing Fabric for the first time. edIT was extremely dope as expected. We got really unprofessional with the Mount Gay bottles we were given so sorry if you saw us on some Ol' Rowdy Bassline tip. I get the vibe we had the demeanour of a football gang. We just got really amped on the high frequency of ridiculous girls and, I mean, we were drunk. Rustie nearly lost all our bags and... I don't need to go on. All I'm saying is our job is a great job. Shouts to big homeys Patchwork Pirates, Lone and of course edIT from the almighty Glitch Mob. Extra peace goes to our poor driver at the end of the night who sang along with us. Thank you whoever you are, wherever you are.
-
To all the people who mailed us about the mixtapes - thank you. The permissions error is now sorted.
-
Can I also add that we have remastered and tagged all our tapes with organised labels and artwork for your itunes. We recommend that you delete any former versions you have cause the new way in which we have labelled them means you wont miss any in the collection and the girls look excellent in shuffle mode ( hetro-pause ). We currently sit on 13.7hours of free LuckyMe blessed content on the mixes section. Be our guest...

It's been great this month gettin back in the swing of normal life. We've had edIT play our own Ballers 5ocial night in Glasgow which was a sweat storm. The best Ballers yet. It was our brother Ternece Teh's ( aka Chris-aka-Busi ) birthday so all the Patchwork Pirates came and joined in. As we write this we are on our way to play London's Fabric for the first time along with big homey Ed' from Glitch Mob. Great to meet him at last. We been playing his record so much.
-
DAMMIT. TAPES DONT WORK AND ALL IVE GOT IS THIS TRAIN WIFI WHICH IS BULLSHIT. GIMME A COUPLE DAYS TO DO THIS GIG AND EVERYTHING WILL BE BACK WORKING FINE.
-
Oh Shit. And we are so sorry on behalf of Dom Sum, Hud Mo & Mike Slott who were due to tour the States as Heralds of Change last month, but had to cancel a week before leaving because of Mohawke's commitments to Warp. They were unforseen and we are very sorry. We will be rescheduling all these dates again for October, and we will be packing a Rustie for good measure, Blaow! See us at Low End Theory in LA / NY, ARTDON'TSLEEP, Turbocrunk and a handfull of other shows. I gotta say we are honoured to be in appearance at these most excellent parties. Shouts to cross Atlantic family like Daddy Kev, Mac, Dru, Henri, Speakerbruiser and Griffin.
-
This months mixtape is by a group called 7VWWVW ( pronounced MAMMAL ) who we've been big fans of for a while and it's a real honour to have them do something specfically for us. If you don't know already they are an analogue synth-based band who have been churning up Edinburgh for many years. There eponymously titled LP is available now from KFM / Crystal Wish on CD / LP respectively. For what it's worth, we recommend you check out Crystal Wish Records. It is 7VWWVW's own independent label and plays host to an excellent hip hop group called Kyon & Dyems who used to regularly play our Glasgow Open Mic nights when FineArt & Mo were playing a lot of Camp Lo Records. We go wayyy back. Anyway y'all. I hope you like our new freebie.

Edinburgh festival starts soon. So girls from foreign countries in little clothes kicking around Oddities and drinking in our fine city's corniest Beer Gardens. LuckyMe has this Glasgow rep but this is the best time to be in Edinburgh. It's only an hour away by road. If you happen to be in town we recommend you visit Oddities Streetwear on 16 Victoria Street and come to our free LuckyMe:Drums party on Thursday the 14th. It's on until 5am upstairs at the Bongo Club. Shit will take your ears and kiss them, then punch them, then kiss them some more.

Ciorsdan Brown aka Nadsroic leaves tomorrow to Japan for one year. That'll be crazy for us all cause she pretty much cooks and cleans for us, on both the literal and metaphysical tips. Glasgow is about to get slightly less colourful, reducing us to do something we swore we wouldn't do... emoticons :(
Nadsroic EP is finally finished though and we just put a quarter in the side of the big factory that makes our yield of vinyl. Out in September for the kids who care.

We just heard discussed this article in Connection this month slating 'Hipster Rap'. It's funny that people hate on groups like Cool Kids so much. Do you not think the route word of the 'hip' in 'hip hop' has anything to do with the term 'hipster'? Hip hop was fashion conscious from its conception and the notion of style is in every part of hip hop. Even if your style, like most artists in rap, is just plain bad taste.

This is Dom Sum writing this. I cancelled the myspace account for Surface Empire today which was my old hip hop group with Hudson Mo. Together with a bunch of friends we started the crew you see on this website and the shit I've seen and done because of Surface Empire is a large part of what underpins my life today. I love hip hop music but the association of that old name in our home in Scotland is tied to past flyers and shows. I want to just go away from Surface now and brew over all the shit I'd like to do musically. I make beats with FineArt in our production group 'The Blessings' and I'll still be writing and recording with Mo. Plus I got a lot to do here with the label. I'll leave the Surf Emp section up on thisisluckyme.com to give it its due props.
But, youknow, If anything I killed it because we all come up with such amazing names all the time it seems a waste to not use them. Here's some of my favourites from FineArt, which he pretty much texts me on a day to day basis. Give him props but don't rip him off :

We celebrate a year of opereation as a website this month by kicking a release out of Hudson Mohawke and Nadsroic - and then kicking Nadsroic to Japan for a year. On the real, we dedicated the look of the site to Ciorsdan Brown this month cause we're gonna miss her like crazy. Have an amazing time Kido.
In case you don't know already Ciorsdan Brown AKA Nadsroic is just finishing her ep for us, which we will promptly be putting out on LuckyMe for the back of Summer. It's 100% produced by Hudson Mohawke.

Ayo. Sonar was an acid trip. It went like this.
Thursday 19th: we got flown to Barcelona by the all incredible Patchwork Pirates and Plat Du Jour with a little help from the guys at Dazed and Confused. The line up was Dom Sum as host with Rustie, Hudson Mohawke and Jackmaster playing furious bangers. Nadsroic, FineArt and Joe Kalamo were along for the ride. We played alongside Drums of Death, Yo! Majesty and Rusko. And the whole thing was, if you excuse the expression, like a vaginal orgasm. Everyone trumped each other with a smile on their face. It was so ridiculously banging. The VIP was ugly in a way that we have never seen before. There was a bunch of friends from Glasgow there and we were throwing donuts out to the crowd. It really was cool.
Also worth the mention is the Karborn exhibition at Hu La La where The Blessings played a little dj set for free Sambuca.
Friday 20th: A day off in the sun. Or at least it was meant to be. But then Mo got asked to fill a hole in the Sonar by Night festival made by the late cancellation of Erol Alkan. So we found ourselves playing to the entire outdoor stage from 5am-7am. Hudson Mohawke, Rustie & Flying Lotus killed it. And the rest of us sat on the stage tripping on the weirdness of it all.
Saturday 21st: A day off in the sun. Or at least it was gonna be. But then Hud Mo got asked to play the afternoon Red Bull Lounge organised this year by our main bureder, Mweslee. That night we all went to Sonar by Night to look at Jeff Mills and Mad Mike's X-102 project. Shit was off the hook.
Sunday 22nd: We wrote off the day by a pretty full-on Saturday night. But our tans were looking pretty sweet ( except for Ciosrdan - psyche! ) for all our Barcelonita beach time. We played some serious frisbee. That night we got picked up and taken to a dope club 14km out of Barcelona that was tiki tiki themed with factor 1 and scene setting lighting. The line up for this, the closing party of Sonar was pretty ridiculous:
Room 1
Radio Slave (Rekids / UK)
Ewan Pearson (Misericord / UK)
Radiactive Man (Control Tower / UK)
Efdemin (Dial / GER
Angel Molina (SonarMusic / E)
Nacho Marco (Loudeast / E)
Room 2
Buraka Som Sistema DJs (Enchufada / PT)
DJ 2D2 + Griffi (Del Palo / E)
Spacek Sound System (!k7 / UK)
Onra (Label Rouge / FR)
Take (Inner Current / US)
Hudson Mohawke (Warp / UK)
... but Anti Pop were in the building as well. We're fans but it's hard looking at Beans in the flesh since seeing his porno a few months back. That and the fact Dom's ex girlfriend gave him a pedicure when he last played Glasgow. This was actually the best night in the festival for music, probably owed in large to big homeys Jay Scarlett, DJ 2D2 and Morgan Spacek.
So. Thank you so much to those who got us out there and showed us such a good time. Lord willin' we will be back next year holding even more of a presence on the ears of Barcelona.
I tell you what though. On getting back from Sonar, ears were definitely fucked. It's taken a week of pure celtic harp music to get back on track.

Tonight we moved Hudson Mo into a brand new flat above a German bakery. The flat has both working lights and seating for more than two so it's a huge + for all of us. The Healthfarm 5 was born tonight. Many incredible noises and times will no doubt be had in this feng shui compatible paradise. Yo, shit is sweet son. Enjoy the view.

Bo Diddley rip.
Mannnn, ever since Cash died we've taken a lot of blows to our heroes. Marlin Brando, James Brown, Joe Zawinul, Heath Ledger, Art Davis, Yves Saint Laurent, Max Roach, Hilly Kristal, James Yancey, Marcel Marceau, Alice Coltrane, Kurt Vonnegut, Ingmar Bergman, Andrew Hill, Pimp C, Oscar Peterson & Arthur C Clark. I'm glad every day that Owen Wilson didn't do what he wanted to. I don't know, maybe we're just at that age now that we understand the gravity of these artist contribution to a life we lead.

Return of the Mac: Well, if anyone meets Steve Jobs today smack him dead in the mouth. Our server has been glitch-hopping all over since our last update but we've now got the mac back and we wanted to announce all the new cool shit we been up to:
First up, thank you so much to anyone who has made the Ooops! record a success. We are expecting represses ( unstickered sleeves this time to show who got the hot batch ) to reach stores again soon. But if you can't find it, you can get the digitals on bleep.com
This last weekend had us play, party and eat bbq with the Patchwork Pirates, Cinnaman, Inga, Harmonic 313 aka Mark Pritchard and Giovanni Marks aka Subtitle from LA. Thank you for blessing our fair town all of you. The rare smell of molten
Glasgow tarmac and your good company makes us not want to leave our hick town. It started to feel like good people would come to us.
Although our second samurai.fm show got wiped on our broken computer ( we will more than make up for the lost show next time ) you can get fresh mixes in our mixes section and hear lots of new exclusive music from LuckyMe on The Blessings podcast for XLR8R magazine this month. Go get it.
Sorry to anyone in Oslo who came out to see Rustie on the 16th May, cause dude was on the very minute of the check-in deadline and they wouldn't let him board the plane. It really was not his fault and it was not a 'cancellation'. It was another case of Michael O'Leary, chief of Ryanair, messing up our hustle. He's hating bad.
It's been a long time coming but we have added a designated section for the visual artists collective who help make our scene bloom. so whattup to Colin Faulkes, Christina Kernohan, Ivor Williams, Pete Marsden, Innes Maran and Konx-Om-Pax. along with Dom Sum of course. They are making us look dope.
Finally, we wanted to say whattup and welcome to our new crew members: American Men, Eclair Fifi and Iaaze who officially join the ranks of LuckyMe this month. We're really glad to have you involved.
Oh, and word up to D_Gubbins for his beautiful article about us in Shook issue 2.

MARCH 08

March is gonna be rad. Here's why:
Hud Mo says Ooops! finally gets released on March 17th on 12" vinyl and digital down load from all the best stores you know.
The new Rustie ep 'Cafe De Phresh' gets released on Stuff Records this month.
We are teaming up with Numbers to run these two launch parties, called 'Cafe De Oops!' at Gramaphone in London on Saturday the 22nd March, and at the Twisted Wheel on Friday 28th in Glasgow. Hud Mo, Rustie and a lot of the crew are going to come down and take on London for that.
Ballers 5ocial is going to be banging this month, with Kelpe and Debruit playing live alongside Dom Sum, FineArt, Hud Mo and Jay Prada.
Mike Slott is recording new music in Washington DC with a crop of new collaborations.
Bloc Festival is on the 14th in Norflok, with Rustie live alongside our Wireblock peoples.
LuckyMe are taking over an hour of live music as the support for muther fuckin Method Man at the Carling Academy in Glasgow on the 29th. Surface Emp live for the first time in ages.
Our Samurai.fm show is online and underway, whilst our free mixtape section ( above ) is going to be blessed with a special guest selection of the best later day rock by stu of our favourite, yet-to-play-a-single-live-show band, the American Men.
Our friends Kyon & Dyems have an LP out on Edinburgh's Crystal Wish records. Back when LuckyMe was just an open mic rap night, these two would come and play for some beer. Surface Emp played a lot of shows alongisde these two, and this new shit, executively produced by 7VWWVW is making us really jealous.
The Oddities / Circultaions collaborative tee is now instock in BEAMS T japan. designed by Dom Sum its a Scottish map in hand illustrated giraffe print texture on fresh white cotton. looking good. Thanks to Dai Kurahara at Circulations.
Also, we've updated the website to give a little more content. There's a new Ballers 5ocial Blog section to see what Joe Kalamo is whining on about and who he has booked to play at our art school party. There's a press section to show the world how glossy we are. An art direction jawn in case you want to see the design work which comes out of our stable.
So, that's why its gonna be a good month. thanks for reading an everything.

Yo! Whattup to Volume!, the carps, the cool kids and rich at 247hh. this sunday night show seemed kinda cursed after benga the night before being so damn good. but with all the best intent and eneregy in the world the carps bumped in the face of adversity, profisee held it all together, hud mo brought 'em to the front and then the kids 'finished' the crowd off. cheers to you.

Good luck to Jay Prada and Nuala who shoot out to New York for an artist in residency program today. They will be out in NY for the next month so hopefully you will see him and Mike Slott drinking chai lattes with dd-battery powered mpcs in a park near you soon. If you live out there.

Oddities, including Sum, just returned from flaunting the Oddities label at tbc at the truman brewery in London over the last few days. It was fine. We met some good people like Ryan at Ryouki in Oxford and Will Kemp from Second Son / Slam x Hype. Jonas at Social Fabric and Simone at Arision and of course, Matt at Samurai.fm our show goes up in two weeks as they've had some server issues. Sorry to keep hyping it, but we're excited.
-
It's been Hudson Mohawke's birthday. Congrats Homey. May we deep-fry a malaysian pancake soon star! Go see him live in Austria and Munich over the next few days with the overlord, Jay Scarlett. If he makes the flight. Oft.
-
Oh, and we played The Cool Kids / Carps, Clark and Vex'd shows to much success. Word to them and the guys from shook magazine who took one for the party and travelled all that way from london to cover it. Ballers 5ocial Club for ever & ever & ever!

Harmonic 313 played a session for radio one the other day. It was cool that a quarter of the songs he used were by LuckyMe. namely Rustie and Hud Mo under the Heralds of Change and Magic Mojig monickers. Apparently Mary Anne Hobbes played a song off Rustie's new jawn, Cafe De Phresh too. So, thanks again to Mark Pritchard and whoever at radio one is peddlin' with us.

Dom Sum just got back from showing Scottish streetwear brand Oddities and this here musical posse LuckyMe at the Bread and Butter fashion trade show in Barcelona. let us talk you through the parties.
Wednesday night - Tom Trago and Mr Wicks play the Untitled show at Mondo. We are bias to everything the Parra sound system play but this was the best music of the festival. Crooks and Castles kids two stepping to techno?! I mean, if that isn't the greatest snapshot of 2008 yet i dont know what is.Ttom, thanks man. Very fun huh?
Thursday night - Patta x 24 Kilates x Addict party and Vice magazine party in the old Apollo. In a sea of vampiric rockabilly French girls we got so messy on free jack and ginger that the taxi driver took us to the actual hosptal instead of our 'hostel on l'hopital'. Eughh.
Friday night - closing party was boog, with cues we don't do. So we switched lanes, off to trustnobody's party at Jamboree. Both streetwear elitist and satisfyingly trashy - we got our (empty) bag stolen cause cause we were wearing stunna shades in a dark cave.
To all that picked up the LuckyMe promo out there, you can get a tracklisting by emailing us. Thanks for all your kind words so far.
Shouts to Henrik the Bear, Hessa and all the good people at Lodown, Andrew and Matt at Vice, Seb at Nike SB and Ryan at Ryouki. Here's to good people found deep amongst this g-star ego festival.

Okay, it feels really good to finally go official with this. HUDSON MOHAWKE IS NOW SIGNED TO WARP RECORDS. We of course had this on the cards for a minute, what with Steve Beckett announcing it in his Warp RBMA07 video, but to finally say it out loud feels pretty good. So let me try again. HUDSON MOHAWKE IS NOW SIGNED TO WARP RECORDS. Homey is 21 years young and honestly never believed this would happen to him. With 2007 thoroughly raising the bar on all of LuckyMe, we are kinda excited to see what our next steps are. 2008 is ours.

Heralds of Change and Dom Sum at le Retour du Boogie, Besancon. Wow. In the dying light of the year, this show pretty much clinched it as our highlight. All the retour' kids and Electrons Libres' are like-minds and got really stupid with us. The gig was sell-out. 400+ people getting dumb and eating complimentary thai in a medieval stable in an alpine frozen wood.
The day after the show we found ourselves, without breakfast, at the top of the valley in an ancient citadel that looks down upon miles of old town and snow. Within the walls of the castle was a crazy little zoo, Abandoned of its crowd for the Winter. so here we are, rappers and producers, miles from home, in a snow covered castle standing on the other side of a glass sheet from a mature tiger licking its lips. Mind blowing. Really. Then we descended on the town where santa-clauses were handing out sweets. We bought some french '84 bill laswell 45's and drank mulled wine.
That night we played for the good people of Pum thai restuarant / bar. We all got a little fucked up together. Bestown, we are very grateful for your unique hospitality. We hope to be able to hang out with y'all again soon.

Mo and Dom Sum played Zaragosa in Spain on the final day of the saints festival. What a beautiful place. There was this barmaid called pillar who looked sorta like penelope cruz in blow. My gawd. Mo will be back for you. Thank you eternally, to Chelis and the robot people. We got kinda messed up and y'all looked after us well. Much love.

Some ones on some glen close with Mo at the moment. His play counter has scored in excess of 1000 plays for the last few days. We don't know if someone might be linking through to it or if someone is trying to work out what the fuck the arpeggiator is doing at the end of 'spotted'. Either way, thats cool with us. you haven't heard nothing yet.

On Saturday night we played a heaving little crowd at VOLUME! in the basement of Ego in Edinburgh. Rustie X Jay Party X Fineart X Hudson Mohawke X Dom Sum X Profisee X Termite. We all got pretty messed up, which isn't cool, but we danced like idiots and at like, 2.45am there wasn't an unhappy face in the venue. Cept the bouncers. Thank you so much to the team at VOLUME! cause you fully supported this Lucky-thing since day dot. 'The edinburgh hate' was definitely not in the building that day. We'll get some photos up soon, cause we want y'all to see the one of Joe Kalamo sleeping. Eughhh.

Hudson Mohawke got loose with Jackson ( that jacket, that hair! ) and Flying ( laddddiees! ) Lotus at the hands of Numbers. Once again, thank you to them. a hella show. Fly Lo' threatened to drag Mo back to LA with him. Look, Homey, working on that. See you Summer time 08.

Some weekend. Andrew Meza from BTS Radio dropped by from LA and we had 26 hours to show him Scotland. We watched a lot of this and a lot of this and ate a lot of these. Check out our photos of the Ballers 5ocial Club, featuring Andrew Meza, aka Young Pancake aka the Mouth Watering Mexican aka Plain Zero aka Leroy Jenkies in our photo section above. BTS for life.

Oh, and Andrew Meza is in the country.
And we got some nice press about the crew in the Skinny Magazine this month. They have it online and you can read it in the author, Ema J's, blog here.

As I write this I stand on the stage of the Flexbar in Amsterdam. We just played the Beat Dimension party with Tom Trago and Cinnaman. It's rare that we see a crowd like this really. Tom's hat is like the man from Delmonti's. Heralds of Change live just happened with me, Dom Sum as mc and host. We have a few interviews tomorrow for Samurai.fm and Tom Trago's radio show on monday night. Stay flossy amsterdam.
-
We played second fiddle ( pause ) to Shape of Broad Minds in Dublin yesterday. a great show with a really drunk, open minded crowd that danced like crazy. Want to shout out the lord Janeiro, Keva and the dopest dj Jamad. Good lookin out. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Modeselektor really was an airhorn festival. Everyone was silly. Well done to Numbers an 'em, Rustie an 'em.
-
Janeiro Jarel played a pretty busy little jazz bar in Edinburgh this weekend.Wwhen he spotted Hud mo he asked the dj to photograph him with the 'Gawd', and tried to give him the mic. NEVER GIVE HUDSON MO THE MIC. IS Y'ALL CRAZY!!! - JJ called Mo out as ' The Saviour of Jazz!'. It was pretty funny.

Rustie and Jackmaster played alongside a solo A-Trak last night as DJ Mehdi was unable to show. He had a dookie leather jacket on for the majority of the late-90's french house set that he was playing. Still fairly pow! though. Joe took some ridiculous photos. We will add them to the photo section.

Dom Sum finally finished the artwork for All City Records new 7x7" series. A&R'd by Mike Slott, this stands to be a really beautiful collection of vinyl featuring new beat music from the likes of Hud Mo, Snowman, Fulgeance, Le N?ko, Cooper Hatchet, Naive Ted, Newman and Mike himself. Look out for it in over 08.

Just added this merch page to the website. it shows you the tees we have made and the tees we are currently getting produced for xmas. We only really make them for giving to friends and selling at live shows. You'll only see it if you read this comment as its not the sort of thing we want to be particularly known for. Selling you shit I mean. I once saw a rappers myspace and dude was trying to sell plastic stetson hats with his name on the rim. That said, if you like what we do and you want to wear our logo. Great. The monicker brings good fortune. It really does. Check out the merch page here.

Fulgeance was a beast last night. Dude ate haggis, ignored the 'grape or grain' rule and hung out with us until the break o' dawn. Definitiely a global beat scene monster with one of the best live shows we've witnessed yet. The Hendrix of the mpc. This is a cutting new music and its great to meet like-minds and see how they style it. Big shouts to the lovely Alice Princess Doufay for coming along too... And it's not like we really care if non-symmetrical people come to our shows or not, but it is worth mentioning that the audience was particularly good lookin at Ballers this month. We're talking pop-socks and those flecked, baggy nike tees. Gad zukes.

Heralds of Change live with Dom Sum, Fatima and Olivier DaySOUL, all in support of Madlib, J-Rocc, Eric Coleman, Chali 2na and B+. it was never gonna be a bad show was it. This was a lot of fun and nice to finally meet the good-ship Stones Throw head on. We apologise for the fact the soundcheck got cut so short. The sound was terrible. Still, the curse wasn't just on us. Otis broke his kik drum too and tried to play it for a further 20minutes. Special shouts to Olan, Dru at ARTDON'TSLEEP and Eric Coleman for holding us down.
